Coffee Tanzania, Umalila

Flavour profile: Yellow

Nectarine and Jasmin

Price range: € 12,00 through € 45,00 incl btw

In the south of Tanzania, Umalila is rapidly developing into one of the country’s most exciting producers. The cooperative brings together around 250 farmers from surrounding villages and has, in a short time, made the transition from small-scale village processing to a modern, centralized processing station. You can taste that change in the cup: there is more knowledge in place and more room for quality control.

The varieties grown in this region are mainly Compact and Bourbon derivatives such as N39. These varieties were selected because they thrive at this altitude while producing complex flavors. Combined with carefully monitored production, this results in expressive and floral coffees.

Umalila demonstrates how quickly quality can improve when farmers work together. Coffee quality has advanced enormously, along with consistency and traceability, which directly impacts the income of all cooperative members in the Mbeya region.
