Description
Los Balseros – Yessica Natalia Hoyos
In the heart of Huila, Colombia, lies Los Balseros, a family estate that stands as a symbol of resilience, tradition, and innovation. When Yessica’s father bought the farm, he slowly built a future for his nine children. He cultivated a wide variety of crops, including coffee, while also protecting the native forest on the land. He understood its importance for water, biodiversity, and the overall health of the soil where the coffee is grown.
Today, two of his children run the farm. Her brother, Miller Hoyos, manages the day-to-day operations, caring for around 25,000 coffee trees and introducing new varieties to the farm, allowing the family to offer a diverse range of flavour profiles. Co-owner Yessica Hoyos studies coffee quality at SENA. She has claimed a section of the farm for her own experiments with processing methods, helping to secure the farm’s future. And fortunately for us, the lot from this section have made their way to our side of the world. And ended up in the coffee bags we’re happy to bring to you!
